Once you reach Volubilis, you’ll visit the well-preserved archaeological site and former Berber-Roman city and capital of Mauretania – the Latin name for ancient Morocco – a region which included modern day Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya and Mauretania. Marvel at the ruins of temples, mansions, and impressive mosaics from the 1st century AD until the 3rd century AD, when the Roman rule of Mauretania collapsed.
Fun fact – Moulay Idriss, the founder of Morocco as you know it today, is also buried here in a nearby town named after the great conquerer.
