3 days desert tour from Fes to Marrakech

We will start our 3-day desert tour from Fes to Marrakech early in the morning from the imperial city of Fes. Our friendly driver will pick you up from your hotel or riad, and we travel all the way to Merzouga mainly the Sahara Desert. On our way to Merzouga, we will pass through several small Berber villages, where you can observe the traditional way of life of the local people.

We will also stop at Ifrane City with its wonderful architecture and climate. The middle Atlas region is known for its beautiful cedar forests and is home to the Barbary Macaque, an endangered species of monkey. Our next stop will be at the Ziz Valley, a green oasis located between the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert.

We will take a short break here to stretch our legs and take in the amazing panoramic views of the valley. After that, we will continue our way to Erfoud, a small Saharan town famous for its fossils and the fact that it is the gateway to the Sahara.

As we approach Merzouga, we will start to see the golden sand dunes. We will arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon. Here, we will meet our camel caravan and begin our trek into the heart of the desert. Camel trekking across the Erg Chebbi Dunes, sandboarding, and the chance to enjoy a spectacular desert sunset is a memorable experience.

After about an hour and a half of camel trekking, we will arrive at our desert camp. Today, you will spend the night in a luxury desert camp. At night after dinner, you can go outside and listen to Nomads playing their music outside around the campfire. In addition, you will also do some star-gazing and enjoy every moment of your stay in the middle of the Moroccan Sahara Desert. 

We will wake up early to watch the sunrise over the golden dunes, an experience you will never forget. After breakfast, we will ride our camels back to Merzouga, where we will continue our journey toward the Dades Valley. The latter is where you will spend the second night of our 3 days desert tour from Fes to Marrakech.

On the way, we will visit the ancient city of Rissani, the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty, the current ruling family in Morocco. Here, we will explore the traditional souk (market) and visit the Ksour of Rissani, a group of fortified villages that date back to the 17th century.

Next, we will drive through the Todra Gorge, a stunning canyon that reaches heights of up to 300 meters. We will stop here for a short walk and take in the stunning views of the surrounding cliffs and palm groves.

After lunch, we will continue our journey to the Dades Valley. The last mentioned is known for its stunning rock formations and ancient kasbahs (fortified villages).

We will spend the night in a traditional guesthouse, where we will enjoy a delicious dinner and soak up the peaceful atmosphere of the valley. The second day of our 3 days desert tour from Fes to Marrakech may end in the Valley of Roses or Ouarzazate depending on the high seasons.

On the final day of our 3 days desert tour from Fes to Marrakech, we will leave the Dades Valley and drive towards the famous Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. The latter is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most impressive kasbahs in Morocco.

This fortified village has been featured in many films, including Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Also, it is a must-visit destination on any desert trip to Morocco.

After exploring the kasbah and snapping some pictures of that hell of a view, we will continue our journey toward Marrakech. We will be passing through the High Atlas Mountains. Not to mention, passing by the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest road pass in Morocco at 2,260 meters above sea level.
