5 days desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga

On the first day of our 5 days desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga, we’ll meet and pick you up at either your Riad or the airport in Marrakech city. We’ll start our journey admiring the scenery along the way.

We’ll drive through the Atlas Mountains with the most fascinating views and landscapes and carry on driving through a bunch of Berber villages until we arrive at the famous kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. We’ll stop there for a while to stroll around and explore the hidden beauty of this Kasbah with its old, but impressive Berber architecture.

The Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou and the neighboring city of Ouarzazate are admired most by travelers. We’ll have a delicious Moroccan lunch there and head over to Ouarzazate to visit the Atlas studios if you are interested. Overnight in Ouarzazate.

On the second day of our 5 days desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga, you are going have a delicious breakfast and head over to the Toudra to see and discover the Toudra Gorge. The gorges are breathtaking, in that you will see these giant mountains, water springs, and a bunch of cliffs and climbers.

In fact, it is heaven for those into climbing and activities similar to that. Your First visit will the Kasbah of Amridil. After that, you will be driving to the Rose Valley. Last but not least, we will drive by the Dades valley to see unique rock formations called monkey fingers. A stop will be made to see the Dades valley, and the famous windy road.  Overnight stay will be at the Toudra Gorge.

Last but not least, we are gonna get to the Sahara Desert, specifically Erg Chebbi, known for its golden sand dunes and incredible views. Here you’ll hop on a camel and trek into the mesmerizing Sahara Desert to spend the night in a luxury desert camp.

On the third day of our 5 days desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga, after breakfast, you’ll be taken to Rissani to visit its souk, then to Erfoud to see a fossil workshop.

In the evening you’ll arrive to Merzouga where you’ll hop on a camel and trek your way into the mesmerizing Sahara Desert for a spectacular sunset, followed by a night spent in a desert camp.

You’ll be greeted by some delicious tea and local snacks as you settle into your desert haven before being swept away by the beauty of the night sky and berber music around the campfire, making for a truly memorable lifetime experience. Dinner is included.

On the fourth day of our 5 days desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga, we encourage you to wake up early in order to witness the stunning sunrise over the Sahara Desert. It’s worth it, we promise!

After a tasty desert breakfast at the camp, you’ll explore the surrounding area and be welcomed into the home of a nomadic family to learn more about their traditional way of life.

From there you’ll take a trip to M’fis, an abandoned mining town peacefully tucked away in the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. While it may be a ghost town, it still holds its allure as a formerly vibrant place where the mineral kohl was extracted to create ancient eyeliner. 

On your way to Khamlia where you will pay a visit to the Tuareg people – an indigenous ethnic group also known as the “Blue Men of the Sahara Desert” – venture up to some of the highest viewpoints where you can properly take in the vast beauty of the region. Once in Khamlia, you will be treated to some exceptional traditional music and dance by this special group of people found in Morocco only here. 

After some fine entertainment, take delight in trying a local dish found only in Morocco – Berber Pizza. A classic recipe composed of ground beef, onions, and exotic spices that harmoniously come together for a culinary experience like no other. 

Later venture into the stunning Erg Chebbi Dunes and enjoy the tranquility of the desert. In the afternoon you’ll head back to the hotel near the palm grove, where you can relax and take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool. Dinner is included.

Wake up to a gorgeous sunrise and enjoy a freshly prepared breakfast in the middle of the Sahara Desert before making way back to Marrakech.

Explore several other new places and towns as a different route will be taken, such as Alnif, Nkob, and the Ait Saouen pass with some of the highest mountains and cliffs.

Upon arrival to Marrakech, your 5 days tour from Marrakech to the Sahara Desert of Merzouga will come to an end. Drop off either at your riad or at the airport, according to your travel plans.
