5 days desert tour from Marrakech to Fes

The first day of our  5 days desert tour from Marrakech to Fes is one of our unique itineraries, you will be picked up from your riad in Marrakech to begin your adventure. You will drive through the Atlas Mountains where you can enjoy some of the most spectacular views and landscapes. After several stops along the way, you will reach one of the most popular destinations the country has to offer – the famous Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou. Get ready to be taken back to a bygone era as you stroll through the unique beauty of this kasbah and learn about its long and fascinating history – including its appearance in several box-office Hollywood hits.

You will then enjoy a traditional Berber lunch at one of Ouarzazate’s best restaurants, just a few miles away from the kasbah of Ait Benhaddou. Just after lunch, you will visit another Kasbah nearby, Kasbah Amridil.

Speaking of Hollywood, Ouarzazate is often referred to as the little Hollywood of Africa thanks to its Atlas Studios. Many famous local and foreign movies have been shot there, which makes it a top destination in Morocco receiving hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. 

A stop in the Rose Valley is also a must, where you will have the chance to pick up any of your favorite rose-themed products. Peruse the more than one hundred different ways in which roses are used, ranging anywhere from beauty products to cooking products to simply giving a lovely scent to your home.

From there you’ll depart to your hotel in Boumalne Dades.

On the second day of our 5-day desert tour from Marrakech to Fes,

you’ll leave for the Sahara Desert. On the way, there will be a number of stops in various beautiful places, such as the Valley of Todgha and the Gorges of Toudgha, situated a few miles from Tinghir, a small Berber town in the Southeastern region of Morocco.

After that, you’ll continue to Tinjdad for a delicious lunch before driving through Mellab, Eljorf, and Erfoud, several interesting desert towns that are known as the gateway to the Sahara Desert.

When you reach your destination in the Sahara Desert, you will be welcomed with a glass of mint tea before setting off on your camel ride.

Immerse yourself in one of the most spectacular experiences the desert has to offer as you are taken across some of the highest dunes amongst the backdrop of a Saharan sunset. The camels will take you to your luxury desert camp for the night, while your luggage will be taken to the camp by our driver.

On the third day of your 5 days desert tour from Marrakech to Fes, we encourage you to wake up early in order to witness the stunning sunrise over the Sahara Desert. It’s worth it, we promise!

After a tasty desert breakfast at the camp, you’ll explore the surrounding area and be welcomed into the home of a nomadic family to learn more about their traditional way of life.

From there you’ll take a trip to M’fis, an abandoned mining town peacefully tucked away in the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. While it may be a ghost town, it still holds its allure as a formerly vibrant place where the mineral kohl was extracted to create ancient eyeliner. 

On your way to Khamlia where you will pay a visit to the Tuareg people – an indigenous ethnic group also known as the “Blue Men of the Sahara Desert” – venture up to some of the highest viewpoints where you can properly take in the vast beauty of the region. Once in Khamlia, you will be treated to some exceptional traditional music and dance by this special group of people found in Morocco only here. 

After some fine entertainment, take delight in trying a local dish found only in Morocco – Berber Pizza. A classic recipe composed of ground beef, onions, and exotic spices that harmoniously come together for a culinary experience like no other. 

Later venture into the stunning Erg Chebbi Dunes and enjoy the tranquility of the desert. In the afternoon you’ll head back to the hotel near the palm grove, where you can relax and take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool. Dinner is included.

On the fourth day of our 5 days tour from Marrakech to Fes via Merzouga desert, we’ll get up early, have breakfast take a shower, and then head over to Midelt city. On the way, we’ll get to stop and see some wonderful spots and take pictures. We’ll pay Rissani a visit to see its traditional market and then visit Erfoud, A desert town known for fossils.

After that, we’ll stop to enjoy the beauty of Ait Chakr Pass and then Ziz Valley, the number one source of dates in the area and even in Morocco. After that, we will carry on driving through the Tizi Talghomt Pass with its panoramic views and giant mountains all the way to Midelt City where we’ll spend the night

On the fifth day, unfortunately, the last day of our 5 days desert tour from Marrakech to Fes via the Sahara Desert, we’ll continue driving to Fes, one of the four imperial cities in Morocco and the scientific capital of Morocco. In fact, the first University in the whole world was founded in Fes (Al Quaraouiyine University).

On the way there, you will get some time to feed wild monkeys in the Cedar forest. After that, you will explore Ifrane known as “Little Switzerland,” on your own.
